About a year ago, we started our media actions with the SAVE Brazil (Society for the Conservation of Birds of Brazil) through the Project Flyways Brazil, supported by the Neoenergy Institute in the municipalities of Macao, Guamaré and Galinhos, in Rio Grande do Norte.
The Project Flyways Brazil seeks to contribute to the conservation of wild birds (birds that feed on invertebrates hidden in mud) migratory areas and areas considered important for species throughout the Potiguar Basin, especially beaches, coastal lagoons and estuaries with mangroves.
We have prepared together with the SAVE Brasil team a Strategic Communication Plan of the project and we carry out advisory and consulting specialized in management and communication for the team that operates in the project. We also provide workshops for Digital Communication and we produce content on the project to bring together and inform the local population about the existence of migratory fish in the region and the importance of collaborating with the conservation of the species, Especially, those that are threatened with extinction.
According to the data collected in the monitoring carried out by the in the last six years, the Potiguar Basin is an important place for migratory fish to maintain its life cycle. Every year hundreds of birds long distances to reach the region in search of rest, rest and food so that they can follow their journey. The monitoring revealed that between November and December 2010, 2020, around a few years of 3 thousand birds, considered significant when compared to other regions of the country that are also part of the migratory routes of these birds.
However, researchers draw attention to the population decline that birds have been suffering over the past few years around the world. The main causes are climate change added to the environmental degradation of the habitats used by them. Of the twenty species that occur in the Potiguar Basin, four are in the Official National List of Endangered Fauna Species, according to the Ministry of the Environment (MMA). The situation has sparked the alert to the need for actions that teach local communities about the role birds play in the ecological balance of the areas where they live.
For Evilene Abreu, Wow Communications Director, one of the most interesting points of social communication actions with SAVE Brasil was to work communication together with an education process. "Project activities Flyways brazil in favor of the conservation of the wild birds in the Potiguar Basin are very important. But the results will only be fully achievable if we rely on the involvement of the local community in the protection of these species and the ecosystem".
In addition to the actions in Rio Grande do Norte, Adel will hold in 2022 in partnership with SAVE Brasil media actions for the Lagoa do Peixe National Park, located in the municipalities of Mustard and Tavares. The area has great national and international relevance for the conservation of the surrounding birds and since the years 90 integrates the Hemispheric Network of Reserves for Wild Birds (WHSRN).
In addition to the Social Communication strategy for the Lagoa do Peixe National Park, a strategy will be developed at national level with a focus on the actions of the National Action Plan (PAN) For the Conservation of Migratory Migratory Birds. THE PAN Poultry Limícolas aims to expand and ensure the conservation of the lemon birds and their habitats in Brazil, promoting cooperation between civil society, poder público e setor produtivo.
